Sermon Guide

"Give Us This Day"

Matthew 6:11

Introduction

[Anthony: Write a 2–3 paragraph introduction that opens with a personal story or vivid image of someone going hungry — then pivots to Matthew 6:11 and sets up the three sermon points below.]

Three Points

1

The Prayer is Daily

Key Idea: Jesus did not teach us to pray for weekly bread, monthly bread, or stockpiled bread. He taught us to pray for today's bread — and to trust that tomorrow has its own provision.

[Anthony: Write this point — 3–5 paragraphs developing the key idea above, with scripture support, illustration, and pastoral application.]

2

The Prayer is Communal

Key Idea: Notice he doesn't say 'give me my daily bread.' He says 'give us our daily bread.' The Lord's Prayer is not a solo prayer — it is a community covenant. We pray for each other's bread.

[Anthony: Write this point — 3–5 paragraphs developing the key idea above, with scripture support, illustration, and pastoral application.]

3

The Prayer is a Commission

Key Idea: If we pray 'give us our daily bread,' we are volunteering to be the answer to that prayer for someone else. Prayer without action is incomplete. God provides through people.

[Anthony: Write this point — 3–5 paragraphs developing the key idea above, with scripture support, illustration, and pastoral application.]

Illustrations

Illustration 1

[Anthony: Write a real story, statistic, or image that illustrates hunger and/or radical generosity in a community context.]

Closing Challenge

Before you leave today, I want to ask you to do one thing. Not give money. Not sign a pledge card. Just scan a QR code.

There is an app called Daily Bread. It connects people who have food with people who need it. A delivery takes about an hour. You earn credits that help fund shelter nights for people on the edge of homelessness. And you become, in a very real and practical way, the answer to the prayer you just prayed together.

Scan the code. Sign up. Show up once. See what happens to your faith when it has somewhere to go.

"Give us this day our daily bread." That prayer is looking for you.
